In a shocking turn of events, renowned rapper Nicki Minaj, 41, has found herself in legal trouble after being arrested by police officers in the Netherlands. The incident, which was captured on an Instagram Live video and shared by a fan account on X (formerly Twitter), took place on Saturday, May 25.
According to the footage, Minaj was accused of allegedly "carrying drugs" and was promptly informed by the police officers that she was under arrest. They insisted that she get into a van headed to the police station. In the video, Minaj can be heard denying the allegations and repeatedly requesting a lawyer.
After a brief exchange, Minaj reluctantly boarded the van, which seemed to be located at an airport. A spokesperson for the police in the Netherlands revealed that they had arrested a 41-year-old American woman, Minaj, at Schiphol Airport for the possession of "soft drugs."
Both Minaj's representative and the Amsterdam police have remained silent thus far and have not responded to PEOPLE's request for comment.
The incident occurred while Minaj was en route to Manchester, England, as part of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour. In a separate video posted on her Instagram, Minaj can be seen talking to a man in a suit, who informs her that officers wished to inspect her luggage due to her filming the previous encounter with the police.
Minaj took to X to share her thoughts, claiming that the arrest was an attempt to "sabotage my tour." She added, "They're being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it's this successful & they can't eat off me. They got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc."
The rapper also alleged that her bags were taken without her consent and suggested that the intention was to delay her and cause her to miss her show. Minaj admitted in another post on X that her security team had informed officials about the presence of pre-rolls of marijuana in her bag.
At present, it remains unclear whether Minaj has been formally charged with a crime. The situation has sparked widespread interest and concern among her fans and the music industry as a whole. More updates on the case are awaited as the investigation progresses.
