21 Million on Salary Cap

In a move that comes as little surprise, the Las Vegas Raiders have decided to part ways with wide receiver Hunter Renfrow when the new league year opens on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. According to a source informed of the situation, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Raiders will release Renfrow, saving a significant amount on their salary cap.

Renfrow, who fell out of the offense last season after the addition of Jakobi Meyers, was set to count $13.718 million against the salary cap in 2024. However, with his release, the Raiders will now save $8.21 million on their cap space.

The 28-year-old receiver had a standout season in 2021, earning a Pro Bowl nod after recording 103 catches for 1,038 yards and 9 touchdowns. As a result, the Raiders rewarded him with a two-year, $32 million extension. Unfortunately, Renfrow's performance hasn't lived up to expectations, as he accumulated only 585 total receiving yards over the past two years.

With Renfrow's departure, the Raiders will move forward with Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and Tre Tucker as the leading wide receivers on their depth chart for new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. This shift signifies the organization's commitment to revamping the roster after the previous administration's missteps.

Renfrow will now enter a receiver market that has seen relatively little action, with many teams opting to wait for the upcoming deep draft class at the position. Nonetheless, Renfrow's past success and potential could make him an attractive option for teams in need of a reliable pass-catcher.

In a tweet, Renfrow expressed his gratitude to the Raider Nation for their support throughout his five-year tenure with the team. He stated, "From Oakland to Vegas, it felt like home. I wouldn't be the person I am today without my teammates and coaches inspiring me every single day. 5 years went by quick... 'Once a Raider, Always a Raider.'"

As the Raiders continue to make roster moves in preparation for the new season, fans eagerly await more developments from the organization. With the release of Renfrow and the expected departure of Jimmy Garoppolo, it appears that the Raiders are committed to rebuilding and making necessary changes to regain their form.
