In a heartwarming development, Lucinda 'Cindy' Mullins, a Kentucky nurse who became a quadruple amputee following complications from kidney stone surgery, has taken her first steps at home using prosthetic legs. The inspiring moment was captured in a series of photos shared on a GoFundMe page organized by Mullins' close friend, Heather Beshears.

Mullins, 41 and a mother of two, had undergone treatment for kidney stones earlier this year. Unfortunately, an unremoved kidney stone led to a severe infection, resulting in her going into septic shock and losing all her limbs.

After weeks of intense therapy at the Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, Mullins was finally ready to start her prosthetic journey. Supported by her loving family, she took her first strides at home, an emotional moment that brought tears of joy to all those involved.

Mullins' husband, DJ, has been instrumental in providing updates on her progress. He had earlier expressed his wife's determination to overcome the challenges ahead and get stronger. Mullins' loved ones have been a constant source of support, sharing updates and photographs along the way, including a heartwarming picture of her attending a high school pep rally with her son.

Speaking about her ordeal, Mullins explained that she remained calm throughout the amputation process, finding solace in the knowledge that her family would be by her side every step of the way. She embraced the challenges of relearning basic tasks, such as eating and sitting upright, with unwavering determination. Her positive attitude and resilience have been awe-inspiring.

While there are adjustments to be made within the family home to accommodate Mullins' needs and prosthetics, she remains hopeful and determined to eventually return to her job as a certified medical assistant at Bates, Miller & Sims, a local family practice.

The ongoing GoFundMe campaign, which has turned into a recovery journal, has generated an impressive amount of support, raising over $325,000 thus far. The funds will assist in covering the overwhelming costs associated with Mullins' medical care, prosthetics, and adaptive equipment. However, the campaign is still striving to reach its $350,000 goal.

Mullins wants the world to know that her story is not a sad one. Despite the challenges she has faced, she cherishes the fact that she is alive and able to be with her children and her husband, making her journey a truly uplifting and inspirational tale of resilience.

As Mullins continues her rehabilitation and adjusts to her new prosthetic legs, her unwavering spirit serves as a testament to the power of determination and the support of loved ones during difficult times.
