In an alarming incident captured on social media, pro-Palestinian protestors targeted individuals leaving a reelection fundraiser for US President Joe Biden in New York City on Friday. A video shared by @BGOnTheScene showed a man wearing a keffiyeh directing a derogatory slur towards a Jewish woman, while another woman in a Hijab followed, berating her for supporting Israel.
The aggression didn't stop there, as the protestors continued their onslaught, hurling offensive language at the young woman, calling her derogatory names and even suggesting harm. The incident occurred following a high-profile fundraiser held at New York City's Radio City Music Hall, attended by former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton among other notable figures such as Stephen Colbert, Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele.
The anti-Israel protestors made their displeasure known, chanting slogans against both the United States and Israel. Phrases such as "Down with the USA" and "Al-Qassam are on their way" echoed through the streets. Notably, Al-Qassam is the armed wing of the terrorist organization Hamas.
Their ire was particularly directed towards President Joe Biden for his support of Israel during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. The protestors accused the US of endorsing "genocide" against the Palestinians and warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would face consequences for his perceived crimes, chanting "Israel bombs, USA pays."
This incident adds to the concerning rise in antisemitic incidents targeting Jews across North America since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7. Antisemitic attacks, including those specifically targeting Jewish students, have reportedly seen a staggering 700% increase, often linked to anti-Israel protests which have unfortunately turned violent.
The incident at the New York fundraiser serves as a stark reminder of the need for respectful dialogue and peaceful protests, ensuring that differences are expressed without resorting to hatred or violence against individuals based on their faith or nationality. While differing opinions and passionate advocacy are crucial elements of a democratic society, it is essential to reject and condemn antisemitism, as well as any form of discrimination or harassment.
