Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is facing a legal battle in a US court over his plans to potentially become an American citizen. The Duke's intentions could be hindered by a case in Washington DC where a US think-tank is seeking to obtain and review Harry's immigration records. These records would reveal whether Prince Harry disclosed his past drug use, which he openly admitted to in his memoir, when he entered the United States in 2020.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is contesting the release of Harry's records, arguing that it would violate the Duke's privacy. However, critics, including director Nile Gardiner of the Margaret Thatcher Centre For Freedom at The Heritage Foundation, are calling for transparency and questioning whether Harry received special treatment.

During an interview on ABC's Good Morning America show, Prince Harry mentioned that American citizenship had crossed his mind but wasn't currently a top priority for him. Nonetheless, if it is found that Harry did not disclose his drug use on his visa application, his visa could be reviewed and potentially revoked, which would be detrimental if he intended to pursue US citizenship.

The DHS lawyer stated in a court submission that a person's visa or immigration status is confidential information exempt from disclosure, emphasizing the privacy aspect of the case. Judge Carl J. Nichols is expected to deliver a written ruling on whether Harry's immigration records should be made public within the coming weeks. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for Prince Harry's future plans regarding American citizenship.
