London's High Court ruled on Wednesday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, along with their children Archie and Lilibeth, will not be provided tax-funded police protection during their visits to the UK. Despite this decision, Prince Harry scored a minor victory in the US, as the New York Police Department acknowledged the recklessness and danger of a paparazzi car chase involving the couple in New York City last year.
The Duke of Sussex had offered to pay for additional police protection in the UK, but his proposal was dismissed. He has expressed concerns over security for his family, citing well-documented threats. The Home Office argued that Harry failed to appreciate their role in decision-making regarding protective security.
Since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have resided in California. However, their time in America has also been marred by security issues, including the harrowing paparazzi car chase incident in New York City last year. The NYPD has since acknowledged the dangerous behavior of the paparazzi involved and is considering pressing charges for reckless endangerment.
As the legal battle continues, Prince Harry remains committed to ensuring the safety of his family, both in the UK and overseas. Despite the challenges they face with security, the couple aims to provide a safe environment for their children wherever they call home.
