The Philadelphia Phillies have been dealt a major setback as two of their star players, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber, have been placed on the injured list following lower body injuries sustained in Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins.

Harper, who was recently named an All-Star starter, experienced a hamstring issue during the final innings of the 7-4 loss to the Marlins. On the other hand, Schwarber, in a rare outfield appearance, felt groin soreness while making a throw. Both players underwent imaging on Friday, confirming that they have suffered strains.

The Phillies wasted no time in making corresponding moves, activating infielder Kody Clemens from his rehab assignment and recalling outfielder Johan Rojas from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the void left by Harper and Schwarber.

Harper's absence will be keenly felt by the team, as the first baseman has been an instrumental contributor throughout the season. With a stellar performance, Harper has boasted an impressive batting average of .303 accompanied by 20 home runs, 58 runs batted in, and four stolen bases in his 76 games. According to Baseball Reference's calculations, his contributions have been valued at an estimated 3.7 Wins Above Replacement. However, it remains uncertain whether Harper will be able to participate in the upcoming All-Star Game scheduled for Tuesday, July 16.

Speaking about his injury, Harper expressed his surprise and unfamiliarity with soft-tissue injuries. "I've never felt anything like this before," he told the Associated Press after the game, emphasizing the severity of his condition.

Schwarber, likewise, has been a valuable asset to the Phillies this season. His contributions include hitting .250 with 17 home runs, 49 runs batted in, and four stolen bases, valued at approximately 1.7 Wins Above Replacement. The extent of Schwarber's injury, similar to Harper's, is yet to be determined.

The Phillies, who currently hold an impressive record of 53-28, will have to rally without some key players in their lineup. Catcher J.T. Realmuto and pitchers Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull are also sidelined due to injuries.

As the Phillies continue their weekend series against the Marlins, all eyes will be on the team's ability to adapt and overcome these challenges. The organization remains hopeful for a swift recovery for both Harper and Schwarber while navigating their absence in the games to come.
