### Phillies Manager Benches Alec Bohm for Game 2 Against Mets

In a strategic but surprising decision, Phillies manager Rob Thomson has decided to bench Alec Bohm for Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the New York Mets. Third base duties will be handed over to Edmundo Sosa for the game. This move comes after Bohm struggled in Game 1, where he went 0-for-4 and saw only seven pitches in his four at-bats.

Rob Thomson, who is known for adjusting his lineup when there’s an advantage to be gained, typically maneuvers only when a platoon advantage is clear. However, in this case, Sosa, a righty, will face right-handed Mets starter Luis Severino. Despite Bohm being one of the Phillies’ top run producers throughout the season, his recent slump became a concern for Thomson, who moved Bohm down to fifth in the lineup during the season’s final weekend.

"I wanted to get some energy in the lineup," Thomson explained. "Sosa is our energy guy who can run around and create some things."

Thomson communicated his decision to Bohm via a text message late Saturday night. On Sunday morning, Bohm discussed the decision further with Thomson. Although visibly frustrated, Bohm showed professionalism, and Thomson told him to stay ready for a pinch-hitting opportunity later in the game.

Bohm’s postseason struggles can be linked to his recent frustrations, as evidenced by him slamming his helmet after a poor at-bat in Game 1. Despite his challenges, Bohm remains a crucial part of the team, with Thomson confirming that he will feature in Game 3 when the Phillies take on lefty Sean Manaea at Citi Field.

While the move to bench Bohm could be seen as drastic, Thomson remains confident in his decision, reiterating the need to inject energy into the lineup. Bohm, who missed two weeks in September due to a hand injury, is confirmed to be healthy and not listed on the team’s injury reports.

"He is frustrated," Thomson acknowledged. "But you have to keep playing."
