### Eagles Face Challenges in Pass Rush After Graham's Injury
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to alter their pass rush strategy following Brandon Graham's season-ending triceps injury. Graham, who ranked second among the Eagles' pass rushers in snaps played this season, will leave a significant gap in the team's defense. His absence means the team must look inward for solutions, especially with other uncertainties affecting the squad.
Josh Sweat, who has led all Eagles edge rushers in snaps and total sacks this season, also sustained an injury against the Los Angeles Rams. His status remains unclear, but the Eagles may need to lean more heavily on him despite fears of causing burnout, which was an issue last season. Sweat has been a key player, averaging 39 snaps per game.
Another important player, the 2023 first-round pick, has shown some promising progress recently. With 3.5 sacks and six quarterback hits over his last seven games, Smith could see his workload increase. Despite his inconsistency as a pass rusher, Smith can make impactful plays and offers solid run defense.
In Week 10, Hunt stepped up with 25 defensive snaps after Bryce Huff's wrist injury but saw no action in Week 11, suggesting some dissatisfaction from the coaching staff. With Huff on injured reserve and unlikely to return until at least Week 16, Hunt, a 2024 third-round pick, will be essential for rotational support, even if his experience is limited.
Zack Baun has excelled at inside linebacker to the point of All-Pro recognition, making it difficult to shift him to edge defender. However, due to current needs, the Eagles might consider deploying Baun more on the edge, possibly substituting him with Oren Burks or Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to maintain strength at inside linebacker.
The team also has versatile options like Williams, who has shown strength as an interior defender but could take on some edge defender responsibilities. Such a move would rely on the Eagles' depth at defensive tackle.
Adding to the potential solutions, the Eagles might elevate Jackson from the practice squad. Although he has just one career sack in 308 snaps, Jackson's solid preseason performance makes him a prospect for a rotational role. He had rejoined the Eagles after a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers.
Lastly, Mathis, recently signed to the practice squad, is another name to keep an eye on for future inclusion in the edge defender rotation, though his immediate participation seems unlikely.
The Eagles must navigate these changes and maximize their available resources to maintain the effectiveness of their defensive front in Graham's absence.
