In a recent podcast episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, comedian Seth Meyers revealed an interesting backstage encounter he had with NFL legend Peyton Manning during a taping of Saturday Night Live back in 2007. Manning, fresh off his Super Bowl victory with the Indianapolis Colts, approached Meyers with a last-minute idea to slip in a Tom Brady joke during his monologue. Meyers shared the amusing details of their conversation, confirming that the joke would have been a "friendly, soft burn."

According to Meyers, he was approached by Manning's stage manager, Jenna, who informed him that the football star wanted to speak with him before his monologue. Curious, Meyers headed backstage to meet Manning, who enthusiastically pitched the idea of adding a Tom Brady joke to his set. However, Meyers admitted to being unsure about the impromptu suggestion, stating that he didn't process ideas that quickly.

Ultimately, Manning decided not to go through with the joke, leaving listeners curious about what it could have been. Meyers described it as a "soft burn" that would have ranked as the 200th-hottest burn at a hypothetical roast of Brady. He stressed that the joke would have been lighthearted and not meant to reignite the friendly rivalry between the two quarterbacks.

The Manning-Brady rivalry was known for its affable nature, and Meyers made it clear that he had no intention of fueling any flames. He mentioned that the topic of the rivalry resurfaced due to Netflix's upcoming special, "The Roast of Tom Brady," which Manning attended. The celebrity roast featured unexpected moments, such as Kim Kardashian being booed and Will Ferrell appearing as his famous character Ron Burgundy.

During the roast, Brady delivered a zinger at Manning's expense, joking, "Sometimes you live in Denver, sometimes you live in Louisiana, but you'll always live in my shadow." This playful banter between the two quarterback legends demonstrated their good-natured rivalry.

Interestingly, while reminiscing about Manning's SNL monologue from 2007, Meyers remembered that the football star did include a Brady-related joke. However, instead of targeting his rival, Manning chose to poke fun at himself. He shared a humorous anecdote about a veteran's hospital visit in Boston, where a man remarked that Brady and the circus had two more rings than Manning did.

Manning took the comment in stride, responding with a quick comeback and vowing to work hard to defeat his opponents in the future. Although the SNL monologue itself may not have stood out as his best performance, Manning's appearance in the infamous "United Way" sketch on the same episode remains a memorable moment in the show's history.

While Manning and Brady's rivalry may have subsided over the years, their playful jabs and camaraderie continue to entertain fans. With Meyers shedding light on Manning's almost inclusion of a Brady joke in his SNL monologue, it offers a delightful glimpse into the friendly competition shared by these two football greats.
