In a harrowing incident, passengers on board a LATAM Airlines flight accused the airline of disregarding their needs after a sudden nosedive left dozens injured. The terrifying ordeal occurred on Monday as the Boeing 787 jet was en route from Sydney, Australia, to Auckland, New Zealand.

Over 200 passengers on LATAM Airlines flight LA800 alleged that the airline failed to attend to their concerns for several hours after the flight, with some claiming that they were only offered a McDonald's cheeseburger upon landing. According to complaints made to the New Zealand Herald, the passengers were not provided any further assistance until at least 2 a.m., when they were finally transported to local hotels for the night.

Expressing their outrage, one passenger, Thais Iwamoto, criticized the airline's disorganized response and stated, "Accidents happen, but the way they treat us, that's not what it's supposed to be." Despite being in a state of shock, the passengers claimed that airline staff primarily focused on tending to the 50 injured individuals, neglecting the others who were traumatized by the sudden drop. In one instance, a passenger had to step in to help a fellow traveler who suffered broken ribs and a shoulder injury due to the lack of available translators.

The passengers further alleged that upon arrival in New Zealand, they received unclear instructions and were left in the dark about the airline's plans. Despite promises of accommodations and assistance in booking another flight to their final destination of Santiago, Chile, LATAM Airlines reportedly failed to provide clear guidance. The airline, however, sent an email to the passengers offering to reimburse them for any expenses incurred during the crisis.

The cause of the plane's sudden drop remains unclear, and New Zealand's Transport Accident Investigation Commission, along with Chilean authorities, is currently investigating the incident. The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder have been seized for analysis.

As of Tuesday, only four passengers remained in the hospital, while the majority of those injured were discharged soon after receiving medical attention. LATAM Airlines has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the allegations made by the passengers.

The incident has raised concerns about the airline's responsiveness and calls for measures to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers during emergency situations.
