In a harrowing incident aboard a Singapore Airlines flight, one passenger has been left with life-altering injuries and fears he may have to change his career. Bradley Richards, a 29-year-old telecoms engineer, sustained six fractures in his spine and neck, as well as internal bleeding, during turbulent conditions over Myanmar on flight SQ321 from London to Singapore.

Tragically, Geoff Kitchen, a 73-year-old traveler from Thornbury, near Bristol, lost his life due to a suspected heart attack amidst the chaos. Numerous other passengers also suffered injuries during the turbulence, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Recalling the terrifying experience, Bradley revealed that he believes he was knocked unconscious and awakened to blood pouring from his head. Acting swiftly, he used a pillow provided by the airline to stem the bleeding, but soon after, he experienced excruciating back pain. Upon landing in Bangkok, medical staff had to carry him to a wheelchair due to the inability to navigate stretchers through the crowded plane.

Describing the aftermath as surreal, Bradley said, "It felt like something out of a movie. I didn't scream or anything; it was just all so traumatic." Doctors have now informed him that his injuries may prevent him from returning to his engineering role, which he has held for seven years, leaving him devastated.

The Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) has initiated an investigation into the incident, with preliminary findings suggesting that the plane experienced rapid changes in acceleration, causing injuries to unbelted passengers. The report indicates that the aircraft dropped 178ft (54m) in just four seconds, leading to the injuries sustained by Bradley and other passengers.

As Bradley continues to receive treatment in a Bangkok hospital, uncertainty looms over when he will be able to return to the UK. He currently suffers from multiple fractures in his spine and neck, a spinal epidural hematoma, and a head laceration requiring 20 stitches. Despite the challenges, Bradley remains grateful for the exceptional healthcare provided by the airline and hospital.

The tragic loss of Mr. Kitchen, who was traveling with his wife on a holiday, underscores the devastating consequences that can result from turbulence incidents. As authorities closely analyze the details of the incident, it is clear that the repercussions of this Singapore Airlines flight will be far-reaching for both the injured passengers and their families.
