**Packers Secure Win Despite Underwhelming Performance Against Texans**
The grades from Pro Football Focus affirmed a prevailing suspicion: the Green Bay Packers won their matchup against the AFC South-leading Houston Texans on Sunday at Lambeau Field, despite not delivering their best performance. According to PFF, the Packers' overall grade for Week 7 was their second lowest of the season, only ranking higher than their Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Nevertheless, key defensive plays by Jeff Hafley’s unit and timely contributions from quarterback Jordan Love helped the Packers squeak out a victory.
Jeff Hafley’s defense applied significant pressure on Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, contributing notably to the win. Several Packers players received notable grades from PFF for their Week 7 efforts. Wide receiver Bo Melton led the pack with an 81.2 grade, followed by fellow receiver Romeo Doubs with a 76.4. Offensive lineman Zach Tom, quarterback Jordan Love, and tight end Ben Sims rounded out the top five offensive performers with grades of 72.6, 72.2, and 69.6, respectively. Melton’s critical third-down catch extended a scoring drive, while Doubs showcased reliability by catching eight of his ten targets.
Defensively, linebacker Eric Wilson emerged as the standout player, earning an impressive 82.7 grade. Wilson's contributions included four key stops, two sacks, and a pass breakup on third down. Linebacker Quay Walker and defensive end Rashan Gary also excelled, accumulating grades of 76.8 and 74.0, respectively. Safety Xavier McKinney and safety Javon Bullard completed the list of top defensive performers.
However, not all the Packers players had commendable outings. Wide receiver Jayden Reed, left tackle Rasheed Walker, and inside linebacker Edgerrin Cooper were among the lowest-graded Packers players, according to PFF. Reed struggled with two drops and minimal yardage on his routes, while Walker allowed multiple pressures, and Cooper missed crucial tackles.
The Packers’ special teams had their share of ups and downs. Corey Ballentine lost a fumble on a punt return but still managed to record a tackle. Despite some mishaps, such as a poor snap by Matt Orzech and penalties from Kingsley Enagbare and Arron Mosby, kicker Brandon McManus was perfect on his four kicking attempts, and punter Daniel Whelan delivered a season-high net average of 51.8 yards per punt.
Though Jordan Love's performance was a mixed bag with both big-time throws and turnover-worthy plays, his ability to navigate clean pockets played an essential role in securing the win. Love completed a notable 80.8 percent of his passes from clean pockets and threw three touchdown passes. However, he struggled under pressure, revealing areas for improvement as the season progresses.
Ultimately, despite their challenges, the Packers' ability to capitalize on key moments allowed them to overcome the Houstons Texans, maintaining their position in the competitive NFL season.
