The Green Bay Packers have added depth and versatility to their offensive line by selecting Jacob Monk, an experienced and athletic offensive lineman from Duke University, in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Monk, who was taken with the 163rd overall pick, brings a wealth of experience to the Packers. Having started an impressive 58 games during his college career, Monk has showcased his versatility by playing at right guard, right tackle, and center positions. His ability to excel in multiple positions highlights his athleticism and adaptability.

The Packers' decision to draft Monk demonstrates their commitment to strengthening their offensive line. He is expected to enter training camp and compete for a primary backup role at both center and guard positions. With his skill set, Monk has a legitimate chance of contending for the starting right guard position in the future, potentially even challenging starting center Josh Myers when his rookie deal concludes in 2025.

Monk's dedication, experience, and cerebral approach to the game make him an excellent addition to the Packers' offensive line. His ability to move well in open spaces and maintain awareness in pass protection will provide valuable depth and versatility to the team.

In addition to Monk, the Packers also used their fifth-round pick, number 169 overall, to select Kitan Oladapo, a safety from Oregon State. Oladapo, standing at an imposing 6-foot 2-inches and weighing 216 pounds, possesses prototypical strong safety size.

Oladapo, who started 39 games in college and served as a team captain, brings a physical mentality to the game and is known for his strong tackling skills. His versatility is further highlighted by his background as a cornerback, suggesting he could compete for snaps at nickel alongside fellow cornerback Keisean Nixon.

Furthermore, Oladapo's skill set makes him an ideal candidate on special teams, where his physicality and field awareness will make an immediate impact.

With their selections of Monk and Oladapo, the Packers have addressed key needs along the offensive line and in the safety position. The additions of Monk, Jordan Morgan, Javon Bullard, and Evan Williams have significantly raised the level of competition within the team.

The Packers are confident that Monk and Oladapo will contribute to their success on both offense and defense, as well as make an impact on special teams. The versatile offensive lineman and the strong safety have the potential to develop into valuable assets for the Green Bay Packers in the upcoming seasons.
