### Otega Oweh Withdraws from NBA Draft: Returns to Bolster Kentucky Wildcats for Year 2 under Mark Pope
In a significant turn of events just before the NCAA's Wednesday deadline, Kentucky's star player Otega Oweh has decided to withdraw his name from the 2025 NBA Draft, opting instead to return to the Wildcats for his senior season. This monumental decision comes after a series of workouts and interviews that had significantly boosted his draft stock, making it a close call.
Last season, Oweh was a standout for Kentucky, leading the team with an impressive 16.2 points per game. He also contributed 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, showcasing his versatility. His shooting percentages were notable, particularly his 49.2% from the field and 35.5% from beyond the arc, playing a crucial role in Kentucky's successful 24-win season. Under the helm of first-year coach Mark Pope, the Wildcats made it to the Sweet 16 as a No. 3 seed.
Oweh’s journey to Kentucky is also quite remarkable. Originally a transfer from Oklahoma, he became indispensable last season, featuring in more 20-point games than any of his teammates. One of the season's highlights was his performance against his former team, Oklahoma, where he hit game-winning shots in both encounters, including a pivotal game in the SEC Tournament.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 212 pounds, Oweh’s versatility as a shooting guard and defensive prowess will once again be vital for Kentucky. Expectations are high for him to build on his junior season’s success, potentially making an All-American case. However, he won’t be carrying the team alone. Kentucky is also bringing back power forward Brandon Garrison and shooting guards Collin Chandler and Trent Noah.
Coach Mark Pope has further strengthened the roster with key additions through the transfer portal, including Jayden Quaintance from Arizona State, Jaland Lowe from Pitt, Denzel Aberdeen from Florida, and Mouhamed Dioubate from Alabama. The team will also benefit from talented freshmen: five-star power forward Malachi Moreno and four-star point guard Jasper Johnson.
With all these pieces in place, Oweh remains the cornerstone of the team heading into the next season. His return solidifies Kentucky’s standing as a probable top-10 team, ready to compete fiercely in the SEC against formidable rivals like Florida, Tennessee, and possibly Arkansas.
