In a recent development, OpenAI Chief Sam Altman has recognized the necessity for a "naming scheme revamp" for their AI model, ChatGPT. The acknowledgment came after the announcement of the latest model, ChatPGT-4o Mini. OpenAI has consistently used the same naming system for ChatGPT and its various versions since its inception.
On July 18, OpenAI unveiled the ChatPGT-4o Mini, which was described as "our most cost-efficient small model." Altman shared a post on his X account (previously known as Twitter) highlighting the model's features, stating that it costs "15 cents per million input tokens, 60 cents per million output tokens, 82% MMLU, and is fast." Altman further expressed confidence that users would greatly enjoy using the new model.
While the release of the ChatPGT-4o Mini received positive feedback from many users, an individual suggested that OpenAI should consider changing the names of the ChatGPT models, which have evolved over time as OpenAI's development progressed. Responding to the user's comment, Shea, presumably an OpenAI representative, agreed that a naming scheme revamp was indeed needed. Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, joined the conversation, humorously acknowledging the same by replying, "lol yes we do."
The ChatPGT-4o Mini is touted as one of OpenAI's most efficient AI models, despite its compact size. It boasts minimal latency, ensuring quick responses. According to OpenAI, the model supports various mediums such as text, pictures, videos, and audio. Moreover, it can handle both vision-related tasks, including image processing, and text-based operations, which are already supported by the API.
OpenAI has provided specific details about the capabilities of the ChatPGT-4o Mini. It has a context window of 128K tokens and supports up to 16K output tokens per request. The model's knowledge is up to October 2023, and thanks to the improved tokenizer shared with GPT-4o, it is now more cost-effective to process non-English text.
Overall, the release of the ChatPGT-4o Mini has prompted OpenAI to acknowledge the need for a revamp in the naming scheme for their ChatGPT models. The company eagerly awaits feedback from users and aims to further improve its AI systems to offer the best experience to its clients.
