The survey, a collaboration between PMD Alliance and Dr. Robert Hauser from the University of South Florida, seeks to gather responses from at least 500 people with Parkinson's tremor, including patients and caregivers.
Dr. Hauser emphasized the importance of better understanding how tremors impact patients' daily lives in order to develop more effective treatments. Tremors, characterized by uncontrollable muscle contractions leading to shaking, are a common symptom in Parkinson's disease, affecting approximately 70%-90% of patients. The survey looks to delve deeper into how tremors affect functions and overall well-being.
Participants are encouraged to share their experiences through the questionnaire, which is expected to take between 20-30 minutes to complete. The responses will remain anonymous and aim to provide insights that could aid in treatment development and clinical trial designs.
In related news, Jazz Pharmaceuticals is currently conducting a global Phase 2 clinical trial for suvecaltamide, an oral treatment for tremors in Parkinson's disease. The trial, registered under NCT05642442, aims to enroll up to 160 adults aged 40 to 85 with inadequately controlled tremors. This 17-week study is recruiting eligible participants in the U.S., Germany, Poland, and Spain.
By shedding light on the challenges faced by Parkinson's disease patients with tremors, this survey and clinical trial aim to advance understanding and promote the development of better treatments for this aspect of the disease.
