In an unexpected turn of events at the U.S. Olympic trials, renowned American swimmer Lilly King received a delightful surprise when her longtime boyfriend, James Wells, proposed to her following her second-place finish in the women's 200-meter breaststroke. King, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, will now head to Paris next month not only with her impressive swimming achievements but also with a sparkling engagement ring.

After securing her spot in her second individual event, King was making her way off the pool deck at Lucas Oil Stadium when Wells approached her. In a heartwarming video shared by NBC Sports, Wells expressed his admiration for King's growth and dedication, stating that he had no regrets about moving across the country to be with her. He then got down on one knee and, calling her by her full name, Lily Camille King, he asked her to marry him.

Overwhelmed by the surprise proposal, the 27-year-old champion swimmer exclaimed, "Yes!" The couple sealed their engagement with a loving kiss, bringing smiles to the faces of those witnessing the unexpected moment.

Teammate Ryan Murphy, unaware of the proposal, expressed his astonishment upon learning the news. He eagerly anticipated hearing King's reaction to being proposed to while being out of breath and drenched from the race. Murphy acknowledged that King must be on cloud nine following both her Olympic qualification and engagement.

In a post-proposal interview, King admitted to being completely caught off guard. Interestingly, her former teammate Annie Lazor had advised her to let her hair down just moments before, hinting at the impending surprise. Despite the surprise, King's excitement was palpable as she shared her joy with the world.

With this newfound happiness, Lilly King, a five-time Olympic medalist, is now set to make her third appearance at the upcoming Summer Games in Paris. Having previously won a silver medal in the women's 200-meter breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100-meter in Tokyo, King's career achievements continue to soar along with her personal milestones.

As the swimming world eagerly awaits King's performance in Paris, fans also celebrate her engagement, basking in the joy of witnessing the next chapter in the talented swimmer's life.
