A nurse attending the Kansas City Chiefs parade showcased extraordinary compassion and professionalism when she rushed to help a man wounded in a mass shooting, only to later find out he was one of the accused shooters. Jessica Dean, a hospice nurse from Wichita, Kansas, sprang into action as gunshots rang out at the parade on February 14. Upon realizing the severity of the situation, Dean administered first aid to 23-year-old Lyndell Mays, who had suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and groin.

Despite the shocking revelation that Mays was facing charges of second-degree murder and other crimes in connection to the shooting that resulted in the death of a popular local DJ and injured 22 others, Dean displayed unwavering dedication to saving his life. She used her sweatshirt to stanch his bleeding and provided crucial care until first responders arrived on the scene.

In a display of her commitment to her role as a nurse, Dean expressed concern for Mays' condition even after learning the gravity of his alleged involvement in the shooting. She emphasized that as a medical professional, her duty is to aid anyone in need of assistance, regardless of their legal status.

The incident unfolded as Mays and another individual engaged in a dispute during the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory parade, leading to Mays firing his gun in what he claimed was an act of self-defense. Mays' mother set up a GoFundMe page to support him during what she described as a "tragic time."

Jessica Dean's selfless actions in providing aid to a shooting victim, regardless of the circumstances, exemplify the dedication and compassion exhibited by healthcare professionals in times of crisis.
