### Major Lake Effect Snowstorm Hits Northeast Ohio

A significant lake effect snowstorm has begun to blanket parts of Northeast Ohio, particularly affecting Lake, Ashtabula, and Geauga counties. According to News 5 Chief Meteorologist Mark Johnson, this is the first major snowstorm of the season, expected to bring several feet of snow over the coming days.

As of Friday night, a Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Lake, Ashtabula, and Geauga counties until 10 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Cuyahoga County is under a Winter Weather Advisory until the same time. Some areas within the heaviest snow bands are anticipated to receive between 12 and 20 inches of snow overnight.

Travel conditions are particularly hazardous along the I-90 corridor through Lake and Ashtabula counties. Motorists are advised to prepare for treacherous road conditions due to intense snow squalls, which can produce snow at rates of one to two inches per hour.

In Willowick, drivers are facing nearly whiteout conditions, significantly reducing visibility. Across Northeast Ohio, several cities have implemented parking bans as a precautionary measure. In Richmond Heights, the ban will remain until 11 p.m. on Sunday, while Mentor has an indefinite parking ban in place, prohibiting parking on any city street.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about current power outages and potential road closures or delays due to the severe weather. Further updates and safety tips are available through News 5’s mobile applications and websites.
