Multi-platinum rapper Nicki Minaj has canceled her concert in Amsterdam, which was scheduled to take place at the Ziggo Dome on Sunday, June 2. The cancellation comes in the wake of Minaj's recent arrest by Dutch officers for allegedly "carrying drugs" in the Netherlands.
Minaj, 41, was arrested on Saturday, May 25, in Amsterdam and was subsequently released from police custody a few hours later. The arrest happened as she was en route to her tour stop at Co-op Live in Manchester, England, which has been rescheduled for June 3.
The Ziggo Dome website displayed a note from concert promoter MOJO stating, "Due to the events of last week, the Nicki Minaj show on Sunday, June 2, at Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam will no longer be taking place. Tickets will be refunded at the point of sale."
Minaj documented her arrest on social media, claiming it was an attempt to sabotage her tour. She accused individuals who were "mad" at her success of paying others to try and disrupt her performances. In an Instagram Live video, she can be heard denying the allegations of drug possession and requesting a lawyer.
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, the military police, confirmed her release and stated that she was fined for suspicion of exporting soft drugs. Minaj's security team allegedly informed officials that she had marijuana pre-rolls in her bag.
Following the cancellation of the Amsterdam show, Minaj issued an apology to her fans in Manchester and expressed her gratitude to those who supported her during this challenging time. She expressed her frustration at the incidents that led to the cancellation, mentioning the long hours spent in a jail cell and the subsequent delayed flight.
Minaj promised her fans that she would make it up to them and create an added bonus for those who had purchased tickets for the canceled Amsterdam show. She also vowed to involve her legal team in addressing the incident.
As of now, a representative for Nicki Minaj has not responded to requests for comment. Fans who have already purchased tickets for the Amsterdam show are advised to seek refunds from the point of sale.
Despite these setbacks, Minaj remains a chart-topping artist with a dedicated fan base eagerly awaiting her future performances.
