### NFL Warns Players of Rising Threat from Transnational Crime Ring Targeting Homes
The NFL has issued a caution to its players, urging them to take preventive measures against a suspected "transnational crime ring" believed to be behind several break-ins at athletes' homes, including those of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported that the league has sent a memo to team security and players’ union officials, detailing steps that can be taken to protect against these incidents.
According to the report, the FBI attributes the recent surge in home burglaries to what it describes as "international organized crime." A source told Pelissero that the situation is serious, confirming, "It's a transnational crime ring, and over the last three weeks, they've focused on NBA and NFL players, and it's all over the country."
High-profile athletes affected by these break-ins include Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Bucks veteran Bobby Portis, Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr., and Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph. A report by Fox 4 Kansas City revealed that authorities suspect a South American crime ring to be behind the burglaries at Mahomes and Kelce's residences.
The NFL Media report indicated that the perpetrators conduct thorough surveillance on their targets, relying on public records to determine addresses and using team schedules and social media to know when homes will be empty. The criminals avoid confrontations by ensuring residents are not at home, often striking during games. They primarily target master bedrooms and closets, making off with items like cash, jewelry, watches, and handbags.
In response, the league has advised players to avoid flaunting expensive items on social media, invest in advanced security systems and motion-sensing lights, and consider using house-sitters to deter potential break-ins.
