The New York Yankees have bolstered their pitching staff ahead of the Trade Deadline by acquiring right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. from the Chicago Cubs. In exchange, the Yankees sent two Minor Leaguers to Chicago, namely reliever Jack Neely, ranked as the team's No. 22 prospect by MLB Pipeline, and infielder Ben Cowles, ranked 29th. Leiter, 33, has established himself as a reliable late-inning arm known for his effectiveness against left-handed batters, thanks to his signature splitter. With a 4.21 ERA, 53 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 36 1/3 innings this season, Leiter is set to boost the Yankees' bullpen through 2026 as he is under contractual control until then.
