The San Diego native has accumulated a wealth of experience throughout his career, having played a total of 364 NHL games for the Rangers, Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres. Ruhwedel has notched 13 goals and 36 assists, amounting to 49 points. His standout season was in 2021-22, where he achieved career-highs in goals (4), assists (9), points (13), hits (149), and blocked shots (86).
Ruhwedel's contributions extend beyond the regular season, as he has also appeared in 25 playoff games, including a career-best 12 during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This experience will prove valuable to the Rangers as they aim to make a deep playoff run in the upcoming season.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Sabres in 2013, Ruhwedel played three seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell before turning professional. In his final season at college, he served as an alternate captain, displaying his leadership capabilities both on and off the ice.
With Ruhwedel's contract extension, the Rangers reinforce their defensive lineup as they continue their pursuit of success in the competitive NHL.
