The New York Jets have made a significant move ahead of Thursday's NFL Draft, as they have traded quarterback Zach Wilson and a seventh-round draft pick to the Denver Broncos. The news was reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who stated that the Jets will receive a sixth-round pick in return for Wilson and will also pay a portion of his $5.5 million salary for the upcoming season.

Wilson's departure from New York comes after three disappointing seasons with the Jets. He was selected as the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft with high expectations of becoming the franchise quarterback, but he struggled with poor performance and was benched multiple times in his first two seasons. The Jets eventually moved on to acquire Aaron Rodgers prior to the 2023 season, leaving Wilson's future uncertain.

However, Wilson got another opportunity to start when Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury on his first drive as the Jets' quarterback. Despite the chance to prove himself, Wilson continued to struggle throughout the 2023 season, which resulted in a disappointing 7-10 record for the Jets.

Now, Wilson finds himself in Denver, joining a Broncos team that has faced its own quarterback uncertainties. After two unsuccessful seasons, the Broncos decided to release Russell Wilson earlier this year, leaving them without a viable starting quarterback on their roster.

With Wilson's arrival, he brings more starting experience compared to Denver's current quarterback options. In his 34 career games, including 33 starts, Wilson has completed 57% of his passes for an average of 6.3 yards per attempt. He has thrown for 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions during his time with the Jets, where the team went 12-21 in games he started.

While Wilson's performance has raised concerns about the Broncos' quarterback situation, his acquisition is seen as a low-risk move, with Denver giving up only a late-round draft pick. However, Broncos fans who were hoping for a competitive team in the 2024 season are still awaiting a significant quarterback move.

With the NFL Draft just around the corner, the Broncos hold the No. 12 pick, but it is expected that they will have to make a move to secure one of the highly sought-after quarterback prospects in the draft. This draft will present Denver with the best opportunity to address their quarterback needs and fulfill the hopes of their fans.

As the offseason progresses, it remains to be seen if Wilson will be able to compete for the starting job in Denver and if the Broncos will make any additional moves to solidify their quarterback position.
