The New England Patriots have made an intriguing move in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Caedan Wallace, a right tackle from Penn State, with the 68th overall pick. While Wallace has never played on the left side during his collegiate career, the Patriots' coaching staff is confident in his ability to transition to left tackle.

Wallace, a four-year starter at Penn State, was exclusively a right tackle, accumulating 40 starts and 2,290 out of 2,292 offensive snaps on that side of the line. Despite the presence of other NFL draft picks at left tackle for the Nittany Lions, Wallace has caught the attention of the Patriots for his athletic ability, pass protection skills, strength, and toughness.

Director of scouting Eliot Wolf expressed the team's belief in Wallace's potential to play left tackle, stating that he could also be considered for a guard position if needed. Head coach Jerod Mayo echoed this sentiment, stating that he trusts the assessments of offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, offensive line coach Scott Peters, and assistant O-line coach Robert Kugler.

Mayo emphasized that he relies on his coaching staff to evaluate and project players' abilities, and if they believe Wallace can succeed on the left side, he is willing to give him the opportunity. The Patriots have left no doubt about their intentions, as evidenced by their behind-the-scenes video that revealed their depth chart, featuring Wallace's name at left tackle.

While it remains to be seen how effective Wallace will be in his transition to left tackle, the Patriots have invested in his potential and are optimistic about his ability to succeed in his new role. Wallace himself has also expressed confidence in his ability to make the move if asked to do so.

As the Patriots continue to fine-tune their roster during the offseason, the addition of Caedan Wallace adds a layer of intrigue to their offensive line. With his athleticism, pass protection skills, and the trust of the coaching staff, the Patriots are hopeful that he can fill the major hole at left tackle and contribute to the team's success in the upcoming season.
