Metairie-based depression treatment clinic, NeuroJust, has recently expanded its operations to Baton Rouge with the opening of their first clinic in the area. Specializing in the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to treat depression and other mood disorders, NeuroJust aims to provide effective and noninvasive treatment options for patients.
Approved by the FDA in 2008, TMS involves the use of a changing magnetic field to stimulate the nerve cells in the specific region of the brain associated with depression and mood control. Typically used when other treatments have not been effective, TMS offers a promising alternative for patients.
During each treatment session, an electromagnetic coil is gently placed against the patient's scalp, delivering magnetic pulses that stimulate the nerve cells in the prefrontal cortex. This targeted approach allows for minimal side effects compared to traditional methods such as antidepressants or electroconvulsive therapy. Additionally, patients are able to resume their day-to-day activities immediately following the 20-minute treatment session.
Located conveniently on Bluebonnet Boulevard near Oliphant Road, the new Baton Rouge clinic will be overseen by NeuroJust's current executive leadership. Dr. Marjorie Person, a board-certified psychiatrist, will be responsible for overseeing the TMS treatment sessions at the clinic.
NeuroJust's expansion into Baton Rouge comes as a welcome development for individuals in the area seeking innovative depression treatment options. With only one other location in Metairie, the opening of this clinic highlights the growing demand for accessible and effective mental health services.
With the introduction of its state-of-the-art TMS treatment to the community, NeuroJust aims to provide an alternative pathway to recovery for those struggling with depression and mood disorders in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.
