NBA champion and "Survivor" contestant Scot Pollard, aged 49, has undergone a heart transplant following damage to his heart from a virus he caught in 2021. Pollard's wife, Dawn Pollard, shared on social media that Scot is "awake and feeling great" after the surgery. The operation was successful, with the new heart being described as big, powerful, and a perfect fit for his 6-foot-11, 260-pound body.
The journey to find a suitable donor heart was complicated due to Pollard's size, but earlier on Friday, Dawn Pollard announced that a heart had been found. The family expressed gratitude towards the donor and their family for the gift of life.
Having had a successful basketball career, including winning an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics, Pollard later transitioned to broadcasting and acting. He also appeared as a contestant on "Survivor." Despite his health challenges, Pollard remained optimistic and determined throughout the transplant process.
Pollard shared his condition publicly last month and was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, before receiving the life-saving heart transplant. The procedure marks a turning point in Pollard's health journey, and his loved ones are relieved to see him on the path to recovery.
