Nashville International Airport (BNA) is gearing up for a surge in departing passengers on Sunday, May 5, after hosting several major events over the weekend. BNA anticipates the number of people flying out to surpass 42,000, approaching the all-time record of 43,447 set on October 15, 2023.

The influx of travelers comes after the Nashville Department of Emergency Communications predicted over 100,000 participants in various downtown festivities, including Morgan Wallen's concerts at Nissan Stadium and the Nashville Predators' playoff game against the Vancouver Canucks at Bridgestone Arena.

Additionally, several colleges and universities in Middle Tennessee held graduation ceremonies on May 3 and May 4, adding to the number of travelers passing through BNA. Institutions such as Belmont University, Lipscomb University, Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Austin Peay State University, Tennessee Tech University, and Volunteer State Community College are all within a 90-minute drive from Music City.

To effectively manage the projected surge in passenger traffic, BNA officials are ramping up parking and valet staffing. They will also be coordinating with the Department of Public Safety to manage traffic flow throughout the day.

Travelers are advised to follow some tips to ensure a smooth trip. They can sign up for BNA text alerts on the flynashville.com website to receive valuable tips, updates, and traffic information. Packing smart and familiarizing themselves with the Transportation Security Administration's top travel tips will also help streamline the journey.

Alternate routes to BNA, such as Exit 216A, Exit 216B, and Murfreesboro Pike, should be considered during periods of heavy traffic. However, it is important to note that part of the former Donelson Pike is currently closed due to the Tennessee Department of Transportation's relocation project. Traffic has been redirected to a new section with a newly installed traffic light.

Checking the flight status before heading to BNA and arriving early for ample time to park, check in, and find the gate are also recommended. BNA offers six different parking options, and passengers planning to use the valet service should access it from Exit 216B if coming from Interstate 40.

Furthermore, BNA has introduced a new short-term parking option, offering complimentary or reduced-rate parking for visitors who come to retrieve their family or friends. Rates vary based on the length of stay.

For drivers waiting to pick up arriving passengers, BNA's new cell lot located on Murfreesboro Pike provides ample space and real-time flight updates on digital signage. However, it is advisable to allow 20 to 30 minutes after the landing time for passengers to reach the curb.

With preparations underway and helpful tips provided, BNA is ready to accommodate the anticipated record-breaking number of departing passengers on Sunday, May 5.
