NASA is seeking volunteers for a year-long simulation in a Mars colony starting in early 2025. The simulation will take place at the Mars Dune Alpha habitat at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The four-person crew will experience isolation and challenges similar to those on the red planet, with activities including simulated spacewalks, operating robots, maintaining the habitat, growing crops, and exercising. Applicants must be aged between 30 and 55 years old, non-smokers, and hold a master's degree in a STEM field or have relevant professional experience. NASA promises compensation for those who participate in the mission, and more information about the process will be revealed during the candidate screening. The simulation aims to prepare astronauts for long-duration explorative missions in space and simulate the realistic conditions of a future Mars surface habitat.
