Player First Games has announced the highly anticipated return of their multi-franchise Warner Bros. fighter, MultiVersus. Set to launch on May 28, the free-to-play game has undergone redevelopment in Unreal Engine 5, promising improved visuals and performance across all platforms.
Director Tony Huynh expressed excitement about the rebuilt MultiVersus, stating that Shaggy sandwiches "have never looked better." The development team took into account player feedback from the open beta and aimed to create a game that not only packs a punch but also leaves a lasting impact on the genre.
A new trailer released by Player First Games showcased the upcoming changes that players can expect from MultiVersus upon its release. One of the notable additions is a new PvE mode, complete with unique rewards. Additionally, the game will introduce new fighters to its eclectic roster and feature additional stages inspired by reimagined universes and environments.
MultiVersus initially gained popularity during its open beta in the summer of 2022, attracting a significant number of players across multiple platforms. However, the studio made the difficult decision to take the game offline for further development towards a full release.
During this transition period, Player First Games reassured players that all progress and previously earned or purchased content would be carried over once MultiVersus returns in early 2024. While no refunds were offered outside of the normal storefront policies, the studio aimed to soften the blow by ensuring players' investments would not go to waste.
As the release date approaches, Player First Games has promised to share more details about the game's features and improvements. MultiVersus will be available on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Critics who had the chance to experience MultiVersus during the open beta were highly impressed. Eurogamer's Donlan was captivated by the game, stating, "MultiVersus is great! I spent five minutes with it, which turned into ten minutes and then an hour and then the best part of a morning."
With the May 28 release just around the corner, fans of the Warner Bros. fighter can look forward to an enhanced gameplay experience in MultiVersus, combining beloved franchises in an exciting, free-to-play package.
