### Mozilla Foundation Slashes 30% of Workforce, Eliminates Advocacy Division
The Mozilla Foundation has announced a significant reduction in its workforce, cutting 30 percent of its staff and completely dismantling its advocacy and global programs divisions. This information came to light through an internal email from Mozilla Foundation Executive Director Nabiha Syed, confirmed by reports from TechCrunch and statements to both TechCrunch and Engadget.
In a statement, Brandon Borrman, Mozilla's vice president of communications, explained the restructuring. "The Mozilla Foundation is reorganizing teams to increase agility and impact as we accelerate our work to ensure a more open and equitable technical future for us all," Borrman said. He admitted that this shift means ceasing some historical activities and eliminating related roles to sharpen the Foundation's focus.
Despite the elimination of the standalone advocacy division, Mozilla remains committed to advocacy work. "We want to clarify that the restructuring has not dropped advocacy; on the contrary, advocacy is still a central tenet of Mozilla Foundation's work and we are in the process of revisiting our approach to it," Borrman added.
Earlier this year, in February, Mozilla had already laid off about 60 workers, primarily from its product development team. The recent staff cuts follow a broader trend of restructuring within the Mozilla Corporation, which oversees the Firefox browser, aiming to adapt to the evolving technological landscape.
The latest workforce reduction and organizational changes reflect Mozilla's effort to streamline operations and redirect focus, although they come at the cost of significant job losses and program eliminations.
