The Minnesota Twins have announced a significant roster change as they promote their highly-touted prospect, Brooks Lee, to the major leagues. Infielder Royce Lewis, on the other hand, has been placed on the injured list with a Grade 2 right adductor strain.
Lee, a talented infielder participating in Triple-A St. Paul, has been making waves as the No. 13 prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com. With his major-league debut set for Wednesday night against the Detroit Tigers, the 23-year-old will be batting eighth and playing third base for the Twins.
Lee's journey to the majors has been hindered by a herniated disc in his back, causing him to miss the season's early stages. However, he has been in impressive form at Triple-A, boasting a batting average of .329, an on-base percentage of .394, and a slugging percentage of .635. His contributions include seven home runs and 21 RBIs in just 94 plate appearances.
To accommodate Lee on the 40-man roster, the Twins transferred injured reliever Brock Stewart to the 60-day injured list.
The unfortunate turn of events for the Twins comes as Lewis, a star infielder, struggles with groin tightness. The injury, which occurred during Tuesday's game against the Tigers, has forced Lewis to be sidelined until at least the All-Star break. Twins President of Baseball Operations, Derek Falvey, has confirmed that Lewis's condition will be reassessed in due course.
Lewis sustained a right adductor strain, contrary to the initial report stating it was on the left side. This injury is in close proximity to the severe right quad strain he suffered on Opening Day, which resulted in a 58-game absence. However, since his return on June 4 in New York, Lewis has been exceptional, boasting an impressive OPS of .984 in 97 plate appearances. On the season, his batting average stands at .292, with an on-base percentage of .354 and a slugging percentage of .685. Notably, Lewis has accrued 10 home runs and 18 RBIs in just 24 games.
The Minnesota Twins, now facing the absence of Lewis, will be relying on the debut of Brooks Lee to bolster their infield. As fans eagerly await Lee's first appearance, the team will need to adapt and find ways to maintain their competitive edge during Lewis's absence.
