The case involves a child from Oakland County and is believed to be linked to international travel. Authorities stated that no one outside the child's home was exposed to the virus. In 2019, Michigan saw a total of 46 confirmed measles cases. Measles, a highly contagious disease caused by a virus, can be spread through direct contact and the air. Health officials emphasized that getting vaccinated is crucial in preventing outbreaks and protecting against severe health complications, especially in children under 5 years of age. Currently, 35 measles cases have been reported in 15 states, excluding the recent case in Michigan. Symptoms of measles include high fever, red, watery eyes, and a characteristic rash that starts on the face and spreads throughout the body. Health experts highlight the importance of vaccination, noting that two doses of the measles vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing the disease. Individuals who suspect they have measles are advised to contact a healthcare provider to avoid spreading the virus. It is recommended to ensure that families are up to date on routine vaccines to prevent the spread of illness.
