Meanwhile, in-state rival Florida endured a disappointing home opener against Miami, suffering a 41-17 defeat - its first home loss in 35 years. With a demanding SEC schedule, featuring matchups against Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss, Florida faces an uphill battle to secure a coveted CFP spot.

On the flip side, Miami's impressive showing in the season opener solidified their status as the team to beat in the ACC. With a clear path to the conference championship, Palm's revised projections position Miami as a top-four seed in the CFP.

Another team that dropped out of the CFP projection this week is Texas A&M, following their 23-13 loss at home to Notre Dame. The Irish have stepped in to replace the Aggies in Palm's updated projection. Notre Dame appears to be a strong favorite in all their future matchups, with only USC as a likely ranked opponent remaining on their schedule.

However, even with a perfect record, Notre Dame's ceiling in the CFP seeding would be limited to fifth place as the top four seeds are reserved for conference champions. Iowa, on the other hand, secures a place in this week's CFP projection, with a favorable schedule ahead, barring their game against Ohio State.

As conferences continue to expand, the selection committee faces added challenges in determining playoff berths. Strength of schedule will play a crucial role in assessing teams' worthiness for the CFP, as not all 10-2 records are created equal in the current landscape.

Palm's latest bowl projections also reflect an increase in the number of teams qualifying with five wins, up by one from the previous week. Notably, Army is projected to secure six wins, with their final victory anticipated to be against Navy after bowl selections are announced. Both Army and Navy must become eligible before their traditional matchup to be eligible for a bowl game.
