### Mets' Vientos Powers Team to Victory, Ties Series with Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers' unrelenting pitching dominance, showcased in their previous victories against the Padres and the Mets, came to an unexpected halt at the outset of NLCS Game 2. The vagaries of postseason baseball were on full display as sophomore standout Mark Vientos turned the tide with a powerful swing, leading the Mets to a crucial win.

Following a demoralizing 9-0 defeat on Sunday night, the Mets found morale in Francisco Lindor's lead-off home run against Dodgers' pitcher Ryan Brasier. Lindor’s blast not only shattered the Dodgers' impressive scoreless streak but also set the tone for the game. As Landon Knack struggled through the second inning, Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts made the strategic decision to intentionally walk Lindor with runners on second and third, hoping to face the less experienced Vientos.

Vientos, a rising star at just 24 years old, had exploded onto the scene with 27 home runs in 111 games. Despite an unimpressive start to the series with three strikeouts, Vientos demonstrated his resilience in a prolonged at-bat that saw him fend off multiple sliders from Knack. On the ninth pitch, when Knack delivered a pitch dead center, Vientos connected powerfully, sending the ball over the right-center fence for a grand slam.

This pivotal moment proved decisive. Although the Mets' bullpen made the game tense, it was Vientos' grand slam that secured a 7-3 victory, leveling the series as it heads back to New York.

Interestingly, the strategy to walk Lindor and face Vientos is part of a trend for the Dodgers. ESPN highlighted that the last three playoff grand slams following intentional walks have all been against Dave Roberts' Dodgers. Miguel Montero did it for the Cubs in the 2016 NLCS, Howie Kendrick for the Nationals in the 2019 NLDS, and now Vientos in 2024.

The Dodgers' decision-making in key moments continues to be scrutinized, but for the Mets, this win instills hope and momentum as they aim to progress further in the postseason.
