The transfer of Kodai Senga to the 60-day IL was necessary to clear space for Winker on the 40-man roster. Senga's move allows the Mets to accommodate Winker, who will now wear the number 3 on his jersey.

Stewart, at 30 years old, had some standout moments for the Mets in 2023, hitting 11 home runs and maintaining an impressive. 840 OPS. However, this season has been a struggle for him. His power numbers have also dipped, hitting only five home runs in 187 plate appearances, compared to his performance last season when he had just 185 plate appearances.

Manager Carlos Mendoza sees great potential in Winker and stated that while he may not be an everyday player, the veteran will receive ample opportunities, especially against right-handed pitching.
