In a recent development, the Cincinnati Health Department (CHD) has been informed that an out-of-town visitor to Cincinnati has tested positive for measles. According to CHD, the visitor arrived in Cincinnati on Wednesday, April 10, flying in from Illinois to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and then taking a Lyft to the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati around 9 p.m. on the same day.
As part of their visit, the individual also made a stop at Morton's Steakhouse last Wednesday to order takeout. In light of this information, the health department has issued a warning that any Hyatt staff, guests, and visitors after 9 p.m. on April 10, as well as anyone present at Morton's Steakhouse between 9-11 p.m. that night, may have been exposed to measles.
The CHD has advised that individuals who may have been exposed and subsequently develop symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and a rash beginning three to five days after other symptoms occur, should immediately isolate themselves and make arrangements for testing. Those concerned are urged to contact the Cincinnati Health Department at 513-357-7462 for further information and guidance.
Additionally, health officials are stressing the importance of checking one's immunity status, particularly through the MMR vaccine, a routine childhood immunization that reliably confers immunity against measles, mumps, and rubella. This precautionary measure becomes even more crucial in the wake of this positive measles test.
Interestingly, this announcement comes just hours after health officials reported no additional cases following a potential measles exposure at Heritage Bank Center last month. It is reassuring to note that in addition to this, the CHD has also shared that COVID-19 infections in the city of Cincinnati are currently at a low transmission rate, signaling a positive trend in combatting the pandemic.
As the CHD actively works to mitigate the risk of measles transmission, it is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their health. Regularly checking vaccination records, promptly seeking medical attention if symptoms manifest, and adhering to guidance from health authorities are important steps in maintaining the well-being of both residents and visitors in Cincinnati.
