**Mayor Bowser's Lighthearted Appeal to Shakira After Last-Minute Cancellation**

At the WorldPride Mayoral Reception held close to Nationals Park, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser humorously addressed the recent cancellation by the renowned singer-songwriter Shakira. The Colombian artist, who had been scheduled to perform at the WorldPride D.C. welcome concert, made the decision to withdraw just a day before her appearance due to logistical challenges.

During her speech at the Rubell Museum D.C., Mayor Bowser highlighted the city's spirit of inclusivity and mutual support. "We look out for each other. We stand together in good times and in tough times, and no matter what the challenges are - Shakira, Shakira," Bowser quipped, sparking laughter from the audience. The event was supposed to take place at Nationals Park with Shakira as a headline performer.

Smiling amidst the crowd's laughter, Bowser added, "Shakira, girl, get yourself here." Her playful remarks aimed to remind Shakira of the high hopes and excitement that her fans in D.C. felt about her anticipated performance.

Shakira's withdrawal stemmed from complications related to transporting her full tour production, which had been in Boston prior to the scheduled D.C. event. Mayor Bowser concluded her light-hearted message with a warm invitation, "We love you. We want to see you. We want to party with you."

The crowd received Bowser's remarks with a spirited response, underscoring the city's welcoming nature and the enthusiasm for what would have been a memorable concert.
