Matt Damon has expressed his sympathies for his close friend and fellow actor, Ben Affleck, acknowledging the intense scrutiny that Affleck faces in his personal life, particularly in light of his recent marital struggles with Jennifer Lopez. In a recent episode of the "Radio Times Podcast," Damon shared his thoughts alongside Casey Affleck, Ben's brother.
During their conversation, Damon highlighted the challenges faced by celebrities in maintaining privacy and avoiding constant media attention. He specifically mentioned Ben Affleck, expressing empathy for the level of scrutiny his friend has endured throughout his career.
"I've been really lucky in that way... especially when I look at Casey's brother, Ben," Damon said. "I can't imagine living under that kind of scrutiny."
Damon, 53, reflected on their parallel careers and acknowledged that while they both gained fame around the same time, the media focus on Ben was more intense due to his younger age and single status. He noted that details of Ben's personal life often made headlines, while his own was largely overlooked.
"That magazine culture that was so huge... 25 years ago [they] kind of ignored me," Damon added. "Right, like a guy who's married, it's so boring."
Despite their simultaneous rise to fame following their 1997 Oscar-winning film, Damon emphasized that the media's interest in Ben was driven by sensationalism and scandal, which led to less attention on him personally.
Damon's comments come at a time when sources have revealed that Ben and Jennifer Lopez's marriage has reportedly been over since March. Page Six sources have indicated that Lopez feels frustrated and humiliated by their failed second chance at love. Insiders have also shared that Ben is delaying filing for divorce to avoid causing further embarrassment to Lopez.
Although neither party has publicly addressed their impending split, they notably spent their second wedding anniversary apart in July, with Lopez dining in the Hamptons and Ben working in Los Angeles. Additionally, both have put their luxurious Beverly Hills mansion on the market and Ben has recently purchased a new estate in Pacific Palisades, California.
Lopez is reportedly upset that their children are involved in the situation, as she shares 16-year-old twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony and Ben shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Despite not being photographed together in over a month, Lopez has been seen spending time with Ben's children recently. Violet was spotted wearing her stepmother's pink Dolce & Gabbana dress in Los Angeles over the weekend, and Lopez was also seen enjoying quality time with Samuel on Sunday afternoon.
As Matt Damon expresses his support and understanding for Ben Affleck's personal struggles, it remains to be seen how their individual paths will unfold in the future.
