Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll brought a fun and colorful twist to the annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast in South Boston. Instead of wearing the traditional green attire, the top two officials in the state's executive branch donned Dunkin' orange and pink tracksuits, dubbing themselves the "DunQueens."
The outfits chosen by Gov. Healey and Lt. Gov. Driscoll were featured in the popular "DunKings" Super Bowl commercial, which starred Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Tom Brady. As they made their way to the podium at the Ironworkers Local 7 Union Hall, they threw Munchkins to the excited crowd that had gathered.
In a playful nod to the Dunkin' commercial, Gov. Healey exclaimed, "To Ben, to Matt, to Tom: Just reminding everybody, now, Massachusetts runs on DunQueens!" Lt. Gov. Driscoll added with a laugh, "Sometimes, it's hard to be your friend."
Adding to their DunQueens crew for the event, Gov. Healey and Lt. Gov. Driscoll called upon former Massachusetts Gov. Jane Swift. Swift, who served as the acting governor from April 2001 to January 2003 after Gov. Paul Cellucci's appointment as U.S. Ambassador to Canada, delighted the crowd with her return. "I'm baaaaaack," she exclaimed, humorously noting, "Actually, that's not true. I'm just acting."
The St. Patrick's Day Breakfast is an occasion where Massachusetts politicians come together to honor Irish heritage in the city of Boston and throughout the state. It is also a time for lighthearted roasting and friendly banter among colleagues.
This year, Gov. Healey, Lt. Gov. Driscoll, and former Gov. Swift added a touch of humor and vibrant energy to the event by embracing their DunQueens alter egos. Their choice to wear Dunkin' attire showcased a playful and creative side, further highlighting the festivities of the day.
The St. Patrick's Day Breakfast serves as a reminder that even in the realm of politics, it's important to have moments of levity and camaraderie. Gov. Healey, Lt. Gov. Driscoll, and former Gov. Swift certainly provided a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone in attendance.
