The Blue 2 Fire, which ignited on May 17, 2024, in the White Mountain Wilderness area northwest of Ruidoso, continues to burn unabated in Lincoln County. The incident, believed to have been caused by lightning, has engulfed an estimated 3,300 acres of land, with containment efforts currently at 0%.

As the fire rages on, authorities have issued a mandatory evacuation order for several areas in the vicinity. Residents of the Villa Madonna Subdivision, Forest Service Road 127A (Upper Eagle Creek), Ski Run Road, Bonito Lake Road, Forest Service Road 108, and Forest Service Road 107 are urged to leave their homes immediately.

In addition, the Sierra Vista Subdivision and Sun Valley Subdivision have been placed under a "SET" evacuation status, indicating that residents should be ready to leave if necessary. The Angus area is currently under a "READY" evacuation status, meaning residents should be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice.

To ensure the safety and well-being of those affected, an evacuation center has been set up at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds located at 101 5th Street in Capitan. This facility will provide shelter and assistance for evacuees during this challenging time.

The Blue 2 Fire has been a cause for concern, especially as it continues to grow at night, and the smoke generated is classified as moderate, often influenced by wind patterns. Firefighting efforts have been underway, with 88 personnel on the scene and additional resources en route to combat the blaze. The vegetation primarily consists of dead trees and dead/down trees, making full suppression tactics necessary.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and updates can be found on KOAT.com as the story develops. As the fire poses a significant threat to the surrounding communities, residents are urged to stay informed and follow all evacuation orders issued by the authorities.
