On Thursday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, LSU's gymnastics team delivered a dominant performance, solidifying their spot in Saturday's NCAA Championship Final. The Lady Tigers posted an impressive score of 198.1125, marking the program's second-highest score at NCAA Championships.
Despite not participating in the competition, Olivia Dunne, a key member of the team, was seen warming up alongside her teammates in a video. Dunne, 21, took to Instagram to express her excitement, posting a story with the caption "Final 4 bound" along with a purple heart and ring emoji.
Leading the charge for LSU was Haleigh Bryant, who earned an incredible 39.7125 all-around score. As the team prepares for the championship matchup, they will face off against California, Utah, and Florida.
Head coach Jay Clark expressed his delight at reaching the finals for the second consecutive year, stating, "We're obviously thrilled to be back in the finals again for the second year in a row. It never gets old to advance to this point. I'm proud of how this team has done all year long." Last year, LSU finished fourth at the NCAA Championship.
Prior to the semifinal event, Dunne, who is well-known for her vast social media following with a combined 13 million followers on Instagram and TikTok, shared a selfie on her Instagram Story, captioning it with "Geaux time."
In a heartwarming moment, Dunne had the opportunity to reunite with her childhood hero, former Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman. Raisman, who is serving as a commentator for ESPN's postseason gymnastics coverage, met Dunne, expressing her excitement on Instagram. The two had previously met in 2012, when Raisman competed at the London Games, where she won six Olympic medals, including three gold.
The spring season has been filled with celebrations for Dunne and the Lady Tigers, who clinched their fifth conference title at the SEC Championships last month. Dunne shared her enthusiasm on Instagram with the post, "100% chance of purple reign."
As Dunne approaches the end of her senior year at LSU, she has her sights set on securing a national championship victory with the Lady Tigers. Their outstanding performance in the semifinal has certainly positioned them as strong contenders for the title. All eyes will be on LSU as they strive to bring home the prestigious NCAA Championship to their program.
