In a recent interview on "State of the Union," former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney issued a cautionary message about the emergence of a "Putin-wing" within the Republican Party. Cheney expressed concerns about the influence this faction could have on the White House. She highlighted the stark contrast between President Joe Biden's forceful accusation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the death of Alexey Navalny and former President Donald Trump's ambiguous response, failing to mention Navalny directly.

Biden unequivocally blamed Putin and his regime for Navalny's demise, condemning the Russian leader's brutality. In contrast, Trump posted about various unrelated topics in response to Navalny's death, raising questions about his stance on Russia and NATO commitments. Cheney criticized Trump's remarks, labeling them as "dangerous" and indicative of a lack of understanding of America's global responsibilities.

GOP Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, a Trump supporter, defended the former president's foreign policy, claiming that the world was safer under his administration. However, Cheney called attention to Trump's statements undermining NATO commitments, emphasizing the potential risks posed to American and European security.

Despite not confirming a potential third-party presidential run, Cheney emphasized her determination to oppose Trump and his policies. Additionally, Scott branded Putin as a "murderous dictator" who eliminates competition ahead of Russian elections.

The discussion surrounding Navalny's death has underscored the divisions within the Republican Party regarding its stance on Russia and international relations. As the 2024 election approaches, the dynamics between pro-Trump Republicans and those advocating for a different approach to foreign policy are becoming increasingly prominent.
