Lionel Messi, the star forward for Inter Miami, will not be able to participate in the upcoming match against Orlando City on Wednesday night. Messi sustained an injury to his left knee during his team's thrilling 3-2 victory over Montreal on Saturday.
The injury occurred in the 40th minute of the match when Montreal defender George Campbell fouled Messi, causing him to clutch his knee in pain. Despite the incident, Miami's medical team quickly attended to Messi and cleared him to continue playing for the rest of the game.
However, it appears that Messi has been feeling the effects of the knock. During regenerative work on Monday, the Argentine sensation experienced discomfort in his knee. Miami's assistant coach, Javier Morales, confirmed Messi's condition, stating, "He suffered a hit to the knee on Saturday versus Montreal, he continued playing through the end of the game and then iced it when finished. He trained with the players yesterday who did regenerative work, with the bicycle and a bit of jogging on the field."
After careful evaluation, the team has made the decision to rest Messi and exclude him from the match against Orlando. This is not the first time Messi has faced injury woes this season, as he previously missed a series of games from March 13 to April 6 due to a muscle injury.
Since Messi's debut, Inter Miami's record has showcased his immense impact on the team's performances. They have achieved a 2-4-6 record in all competitions when Messi has not played, compared to an impressive 15-7-3 record when he has been on the field. With 12 goals and 13 assists, Messi has been rewriting MLS history books this season.
Despite Messi's absence, Inter Miami currently holds the top spot in the Eastern Conference table with 27 points from 13 games. This serves as a testament to the team's overall performance, with Messi's contributions contributing significantly to their success.
Fans and teammates alike will undoubtedly be hopeful for Messi's swift recovery and his return to the pitch in the near future.
