Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel found himself at the center of a legal squabble after former Republican congressman George Santos filed a civil lawsuit against him on Saturday. Santos accuses Kimmel of using fake names to deceive him on Cameo, a platform for personalized video messages. Santos, who had been expelled from Congress for alleged fraudulent activities, is seeking at least $750,000 in damages with further amounts to be determined in court.
During his Tuesday night monologue, Kimmel addressed the lawsuit with humor, dubbing it as "the most preposterous lawsuit of all time." He mockingly highlighted Santos' history of using aliases and fabricating parts of his life story. Kimmel even joked that Santos is being represented by the prestigious law firm of Pot, Kettle, and Black.
The lawsuit alleges copyright infringement, fraud, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment as Kimmel had requested 14 Cameo messages from Santos under fake names, which were later featured on his show. Kimmel, amused by the situation, playfully set up a GoFundMe with a target of $355 million, quipping, "This is like getting sued for paternity by Nick Cannon."
The legal battle between Jimmy Kimmel and George Santos provides a quirky twist to the ongoing saga, with Kimmel taking to his late-night show to crack jokes and poke fun at the lawsuit.
