**Popovich's Night Ruined by Mavericks' Signing of Klay Thompson**

In what turned out to be a highly entertaining season opener, the Dallas Mavericks triumphed over the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 120-109. The debut of Klay Thompson in a Mavericks uniform was the highlight of the night, as he delivered an impressive 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including a remarkable six three-pointers.

Dallas couldn't be more pleased with their new addition, who expressed his joy at donning "Mavs Blue" following the victory. However, on the other side, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had a far less pleasant reaction to Thompson joining their rival team. Despite his profound respect for Thompson, Popovich found himself quite disturbed by the Mavericks' successful acquisition of the elite shooter.

Recollecting his immediate reaction, Popovich shared candidly, "'Oh my God, how the hell did they do that?' I was probably having a glass of wine somewhere and it wrecked my whole night. But you know about Klay. He's special. It's a great addition, of course."

As the season progresses, the Spurs, led by their rising star Victor Wembanyama, will need to contend with Thompson and the Mavericks time and again. The Spurs are eyeing a possible playoff berth this year and will have to navigate through a competitive landscape, including strong teams like the Mavericks, to achieve their goals.
