**King Charles III Visits Canada Amid Controversy Over US Annexation Talk**

King Charles III has commenced a historic visit to Canada, landing in Ottawa on Monday, which is being interpreted as a stance against US President Donald Trump's vocalized ambitions to annex Canada as the 51st state. The arrival of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Ottawa Airport marks a significant moment, wherein the British monarch will formally open the Canadian parliament with a throne speech.

This notable visit comes at the invitation of Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, who has emphasized that the King’s presence and his upcoming throne speech will highlight Canada’s sovereignty amidst Trump's controversial annexation remarks. King Charles III, serving as Canada's head of state within the Commonwealth, has underlined the constitutional and historic ties between Canada and the British monarchy.

Prime Minister Mark Carney called the visit a "historic honour" reflecting the enduring traditions and friendships between Canada and the British Crown. He highlighted Canada's strength in embracing its English, French, and Indigenous roots, which form the core of the nation’s identity.

Upon the King's arrival, he was greeted by Prime Minister Carney, Canada's first indigenous governor general, Mary Simon, and a 25-member honor guard from the Royal Canadian Dragoons. Simon remarked that the King and Queen Camilla’s visit reinforces the constitutional bond that has been significant in shaping Canada into a proud and independent nation.

The delivery of the speech from the throne by the monarch is a rarity in Canada, last occurring with Queen Elizabeth II in 1977. In acknowledging this ceremony, former Quebec premier Jean Charest has noted that such events underline the unique story and distinctiveness of Canada as a nation.

The King’s speech, scheduled for Tuesday, will be composed by the Canadian government rather than the King or his UK advisers, emphasizing his role as a nonpartisan head of state.

Additionally, the visit schedule includes King Charles III meeting with Prime Minister Carney and paying homage at Canada's National War Memorial, further cementing his support and the historical ties that bind Canada and the British monarchy.
