In the world of online car discussions, brands like Toyota and Honda often dominate discussions on reliability. However, one brand that consistently receives negative attention for its reliability problems is Kia. Numerous internet users have shared their frustrating experiences with Kia vehicles, ranging from mechanical failures to issues with theft. Now, a TikToker has gone viral after sharing a harrowing incident involving her family's 2014 Kia Sorento.

According to TikTok user @croissantwoman, her family was driving on the highway, going at a speed of 110km/h (68mph), when their Kia Sorento suddenly broke down. The vehicle's motor ceased to function, forcing them to come to a halt in the middle of the road. Although they managed to exit the car safely, @croissantwoman described the situation as extremely dangerous.

Seeking answers, the TikToker and her family visited a Kia dealership, only to be met with shocking indifference from the staff. The dealership employee nonchalantly admitted that the particular model they owned was known for engine problems. When pressed about potential recalls, the staff member cited cost as the reason for not addressing the issue, stating that it would be too expensive for Kia to recall all the affected cars and replace their motors.

@croissantwoman expressed her disbelief and emphasized the potential danger they faced. She recounted the employee's response, implying that Kia acknowledged being in the wrong but opted not to take action due to financial considerations. The TikToker further criticized the dealership staff for their dismissive attitude, which included making jokes about the situation. To add insult to injury, they were even offered a seemingly inappropriate deal on a 2021 Kia, priced at $25,800, despite their recent ordeal.

Moreover, @croissantwoman mentioned that their Kia experienced issues with disappearing oil, which the dealership, rather than addressing the root cause of the problem, opted to simply refill. The TikToker challenged the dealership's explanation, expressing her frustration with their inadequate response.

Following the viral TikTok video, @croissantwoman claimed to have contacted Kia's customer service and asserted her large following on the platform. While the customer service agent seemed flustered, they could neither confirm nor deny the statements made by the dealership. Additionally, the TikToker discovered that their car might have been subject to a recall, despite not receiving any prior notification. Conflicting information from the customer service agent left @croissantwoman uncertain about the status of their vehicle. However, she did mention that the car would be towed for testing in the coming days.

Commenters on the TikTok post shared their own disturbing experiences with Kia vehicles, reinforcing the claims made by @croissantwoman. Complaints ranged from engine recalls to sudden slowdowns on the freeway, all of which resulted in potentially dangerous situations.

The Daily Dot reached out to Kia and @croissantwoman for further information and comments on the matter. The concerns raised by this TikToker highlight the need for Kia to address and rectify any potential reliability issues their vehicles may have to ensure the safety and satisfaction of their customers.

As the story gains traction, Kia will need to respond appropriately and take necessary actions to address the alleged reliability problems, thus rebuilding trust among their customers.
