In a recent court filing, attorneys representing David Shafer, former chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, and co-defendant in former President Donald Trump's Georgia racketeering case, have suggested that a key witness in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' disqualification hearing may have been untruthful on the stand. The filing alleges that Cindi Lee Yeager, co-chief deputy district attorney for the Cobb County District Attorney's Office, would testify that Terrence Bradley provided a different account to her than what he stated in court.
Bradley, who is the former law partner and divorce attorney of special prosecutor Nathan Wade, testified multiple times during hearings concerning Willis' potential removal from the Trump case. When questioned about his relationship with Willis, Bradley claimed to have no personal knowledge regarding when it began and provided vague information. However, the court filing alleges that Bradley had spoken with Yeager several times between August 2023 and January 2024, stating that the relationship started in 2019 at a conference and continued while Willis was running for district attorney. Willis and Wade, on the other hand, testified that their relationship started in 2022 after she hired him as a special prosecutor.
The court filing also claims that Yeager overheard a conversation between Bradley and Willis in her office around September 2023, where Willis allegedly expressed concern over an article examining the payment received by Wade and his law partners in the Trump case. According to Yeager, Willis advised Bradley not to discuss anything about their relationship with anyone. These details match the content of text messages that Bradley had sent to Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney representing another co-defendant in the Trump case.
During the hearing, Robin Bryant-Yeartie, a former friend of Willis, also testified that the relationship between Willis and Wade began in 2019. The defense appeared skeptical of Bradley's testimony, pressuring him to admit whether he had lied to Merchant or not. In response, Bradley stated that he couldn't recall if any of the information he provided was false or not.
The decision regarding Willis' disqualification is expected to be made by Judge Scott McAfee within the next two weeks. Fani Willis, the elected district attorney, had delivered multiple indictments in August 2023, accusing Trump and his associates of attempting to overturn Georgia's 2020 election results. However, in January, a court filing by Michael Roman, one of Trump's co-defendants, and his attorney Ashleigh Merchant, alleged that Willis and Wade had a romantic relationship. Roman is facing charges related to his involvement in the creation of false electors following the 2020 election.
The court documents from Roman's filing claimed that Willis and Wade went on luxurious vacations together and that Wade used part of his salary from the district attorney's office for travel purposes with Willis. These allegations prompted further investigations into their personal relationship.
As the disqualification hearing continues, it remains to be seen how the court will weigh the conflicting testimonies provided by Bradley and Bryant-Yeartie, and whether it will impact Willis' involvement in the Trump case.
